Read the information in your manual or on the product web site to find out if you have an onboard ethernet solution. Network connectivity can be available through an onboard ethernet controller or an ethernet/NIC card. The VT8231 and VT8233 southbridges, may be supplied with an integrated ethernet solution. To be sure, check the motherboard manual or the specifications of the mainboard on the manufacturer's web site. Other mainboards might have what is often referred to as a companion chip. That is an ethernet chip which is separate to the South Bridge.
